Waikiki, State House District 23

As a member of the House Finance Committee, I vote with 18 other members on
hundreds of measures that affect the State's fiscal budget (HB 500) of Hawaii. During
the 2007 legislative session, our committee submitted a budget $17M less than the Administration's proposal.

In order to better understand the needs of the state, we recently visted Maui and
Kahoolawe, and are scheduled to visit sites on the Big Island and Kauai.

Molokai

Our Maui site visit included the Maui Memorial Hospital, Maui Research and Technology Center, Maui Community College, Maui Economic Opportunity office, Maui Community Correctional Center and several other state and county offices.

The Kaheawa Wind Power Project consists of 20 wind turbines in a single row. The project generates enough renewable energy to power about 11,000 Maui homes. It will eliminate the equivalent use of 244,000 barrels of oil annually.
