As a new legislator, my priority is to return more money to residents.
For the past few months, I have been contacting Hawaii residents who are owed money by the State but are unaware of it.
(When a private or public company owes money to a resident, but either cannot locate the person or fails to do so - by law it must turn the debt over to the state.)
I have personally contacted over 5,000 registered voters in Hawaii who are owed $100 or more.
The State's Unclaimed Property Fund is at $120M.
In addition, I have voted to support legislation (HB 1287, Act 29) to maintain this important program and that the funds are not forfeited to the State - but remain for its' rightful owners to collect.
I have identified 32,622 registered voters who are owed $25.00 or more. Of these people – the total amount owed is $7,514,861, ($7.5M).
There are 456 Hawaii registered voters who are owed more than one thousand dollars.
There are 67 registered voters who are owed over five thousand dollars.
There are 22 registered voters who are owed over ten thousand dollars.
There are 8 registered voters who are owed over twenty thousand dollars.
There is 1 registered voter who is owed over fifty thousand dollars.
As of this posting.
